Are wider tires always better?

Image
A few days back, I had to change the rear tire of my motorcycle. And a thought popped up in my mind. How about if I put a wider tire on it? Wouldn't it look cool? Probably... But hey wait...!!! Wider tires are always better? Let's find out... There is a trend in the whole world that a wider rear tire on a motorcycle looks cooler and there's a belief that it enhances the performance. But, is it so? So, when it comes to a wider or thinner tire, we better understand the tire specification first. 130/70  R 17 The first number of three digits is the width of the tire in millimeters. So, the bigger this number is, the wider your tire will be. Hence for this case, 130 mm is the width of our tire. The second two digits after a slash are known as "Aspect Ratio". It indicates the height of the tire in the percentage of tire width. Here, tire height will be 70% (aspect ratio) of 130 mm (tire width), which is 91 mm. So, for this case, tire height

Nürburgring - The Green Hell on Earth

Image
The Green Hell -  Nürburgring The track which has witnessed 100 years of history, started to establish its foundation from 1920 in the town of Nurberg, Germany. The north loop is approximately 22 km long, with around 154 turns and it has more than 1000 feet of elevation change from its lowest to highest point. Former F1 racing driver Jackie Stewart nicknamed this track as "The Green Hell". He used to say this about the Nürburgring: "When I left home for the German Grand Prix I always used to pause at the end of the driveway and take a long look back. I was never sure I'd come home again." The Nürburgring is known as the most dangerous track in the world. It was made to take and test the vehicle to its extreme condition. These days the track is lot safer but, back in the days it was something more than dangerous, it was made by craving the woods of the Eiffel mountains, every corners with extreme bends and slopes, trees blocking the view ahead

Royal Enfield Classis 500 | Thump of an Indian Heart

Image
If anyone in India says the name "Bullet", the only thing comes to one's mind is the ballistic thumping sound of the Royal Enfield and it also reflects in their tagline "Made like a Gun". It all started back in 1901 at the west midland county of England named Worcestershire under the company named "The Enfield Cycle Company Limited". They were the seller and manufacturer of motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines. They built the first Royal Enfield motorcycle Bullet in 1901, which is the longest-lived design in motorcycle history. In 1955, the Indian government was looking for a suitable motorcycle for its police and army. And as a result, this British company partnered with Madras Motors in India and started manufacturing of a 350 cc Royal Enfield Bullet and since then you can watch them in our Republican day parade. Time has passed but still, the classic design of Royal Enfield has remained unchanged over the decades. In 2018

KTM Duke 250 - Long term Review

Image
You can link this blog to the blog which I wrote approximately three months ago about my test rides of KTM beasts. After the test rides and research, a friend of mine end up buying an orange KTM Duke 250. The motorcycle has completed more than 10000 km on ODO. This seems like a right time to review the motorcycle about its pros and niggles over the period of ownership. Since the possession, the bike has been taken on the short city rides, daily commute rides and also on a few long highway trips. The day bike was purchased it was completely different than the test ride we did. The gear shifts were notchy and the engine was completely unsmooth. The reason might be because the bike was completely new. We were expecting it to get roused after a few hundred kilometers or after the first service because in that condition it was totally unpleasant to ride. Also due to the short gearing setup, it is extremely difficult to ride at a lower speed in higher gears. You'll have to keep
